Irish Coffee
"Cream, rich as an Irish brogue; Coffee, strong as a friendly hand; Sugar, sweet as the tongue of a rogue; Whiskey, smooth as the wit of the land."
- Irish Whiskey
- Sugar
- Strong black coffee
- Double cream
Warm a stemmed whiskey glass and pour in one third of a glass of Irish whiskey. Add 1 to 2 teaspoons sugar, then fill to about 1 inch of the rim with hot, strong black coffee. Stir to dissolve the sugar then top up with 1 tablespoon of double cream, pouring it gently into the glass down the neck of the bowl of a teaspoon. Do not stir, but drink the Irish Coffee through the cream.
