Jordan's Castle
Jordan's Castle is situated in Ardglass, overlooking the harbour and south of the marina.
Ardglass was an important port and town in the 15th Century and an impressive group of tower-houses are a feature of its townscape. Jordan's Castle is one of the biggest and best-preserved examples. It was built for a 15th Century merchant and, in 1601, Simon Jordan withstood a whole year's siege.
In 1911, it was bought by the antiquarian Francis Joseph Bigger. He restored and furnished the Castle and bequeathed it to the state in 1926.
